From November 15, 2019 to December 15, 2019 you will not be able to place a hold on items that are out on loan to other patrons.   However, any holds placed before November 15 will remain in effect and will be delivered in the regular time frame.   If a book or item you need is out on loan, we recommend requesting a copy through interlibrary loans .   This temporary service outage is required as part of the work being done this semester to implement a new library system .   If you need help finding what you are looking for, please email me at martha.attridgebufton@carleton.ca or drop by the Research Help Desk on the main/second floor of the library.

As the Interdisciplinary Studies Librarian, I am responsible for supporting faculty and students doing work in the area of disability studies. I am looking forward to attending the following film screening, an event that is open to all. A related workshop is being held on November 14 with autism self-advocate  Guðlaug Svala Steinunnar Kristjánsdóttir. _______________________________________________________________________ Seeing the Unseen  is an Icelandic film about women on the autism spectrum (ASD). This film follows several women who have faced a lifetime of stigma around their neurological differences but who now find support with others who have similar experiences. The library is in the process of implementing a new library services platform that will provide new library search tools. While we are making every effort to not disrupt any current library services, there are a few areas where temporary changes to services are necessary. The library will be holding an information session for faculty and instructors on the  new library search tools that will be launching on December 10, 2019 .   Changing water levels, temperatures, weather patterns ... climate change is a mainstream issue and last month folks in Canada and around the world staged a series of strikes or protests to ensure that it does not slip off the radar. Carleton students, faculty and staff are engaged, as witnessed by attendance at the rally on Parliament Hill last night (as well as the research and teaching happening on campus). I edit Open Shelf, the online magazine for the Ontario Library Association and our latest issue features an article in which Cass Callow, a third-year BIT student (with a minor in Women's and Gender Studies) and Colin Harkness (a long-time library employee) talk about their experiences on the Hill on September 27.
