Ask a Librarian: Link in cuLearn


Want to encourage your students to use the library? What about linking to our virtual reference desk in cuLearn?

 Ask a Librarian is a collaborative virtual reference service, offered in English and French, that connects students, faculty members, and researchers from participating university libraries across Ontario with real-time library and research assistance through chat. 

 The service is available seven (7) days a week, at varying times and is an effective way to provide reference support to students. 

 You can create a block in cuLearn and hyperlink the Ask logo (which I am happy to provide) and this link to the service on the Carleton University Library website: https://library.carleton.ca/help

Mapping stereotypes

Maps are powerful data visualization tools that can promote important conversations about a range of topics human settlements and watersheds to how we think about the world. Case in point: This World War I vintage map of Europe.   This map is currently on display in the Carleton University Library, along with other maps such as The world according to Americans (2009)  that capture human judgement and bias and other library materials that can be used to open up conversations about stereotyping and discrimination. The display continues to generate important conversations among students as well as between students and library staff. Here's a story about this exhibit: The world according to ... whom? Collections update: Move means temporary lack of access to some materials

Due to the work being done to support the current collection move in the Library, the print serials, government documents, and microfilm located at the back of Level 1 are temporarily unavailable for browsing. However, if you need to access these items, we can still get them for you! If you need to access any print serials or government documents from this section, please request the article or volume through Omni. You will see a message that the items are not loanable, but you can still request either a digital copy of the article you are looking for or request the print copy from another library. If you need access to a larger portion of the print serials or government document collections, please contact Library Services in advance of your visit to the Library so that we can work out the best way for you to access the materials.
