MacOdrum Library is now offering a limited curbside pickup & mailing service for print materials in our collection.  In this first phase only materials not available online will be eligible for a contactless pickup or mailing for students, faculty and staff. Faculty, staff, and students can start placing requests today and they will be filled on a first come, first served basis.  See the service guidelines and make your request online . The library building remains closed at this time. Note: Curbside pickup does not mean the resumption of interlibrary loans for print materials. Problem Last month, I got the following research question from Prof. Ummni Khan (Law and Legal Studies):      I'm trying to f ind early  feminist writing that is not academic (so magazines mostly) from      the 1980s or  early 1990s that  addresses the topic of rap music & lyrics, specifically the       argument that  rap music is degrading to  women / demeaning or encourages violence.      I know there was quite a bit of this from my memory, but I can’t figure out how to search      for m agazines. MacOdrum Library invites you to an “Ask Us Anything” open house on Thursday May 7   from 12-1 p.m. This event will be hosted on Zoom and is open to all instructors and faculty teaching this summer. Shadowpox: #Stayathome is a free online game set in an immersive science fiction storyworld  and informed by real-world public health challenges.  Shadowpox : # StayHome Edition helps players visualize the impact of deciding to stay home during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the effect on their community if they do not. Read more . I am intrigued by this game ... it could be a very meaningful addition to any course that speaks to public health issues, social interactions, and/or free will. I can see it being integrated into a course (either a fully online course or eventually a blended learning course) and used as a starting point for discussion and reflection. The MacOdrum Library building is closed to students and faculty; however, our online resources and services are available to you and staff are committed to assisting students and faculty remotely. The decision to close the library building was made in consideration of the health of students and staff and to do our part to slow the spread of Covid-19 in our community.   On Monday, the Ontario Public Health Minister recommended closing libraries across the province and on Tuesday, the Declaration of the State of Emergency took steps to limit gatherings of 50 people or more and the closing of public spaces. I have made a suite of instructional videos to help students improve their foundational search skills such as evaluating online information, as well as finding books and journal articles. This suite or playlist is found on the Library website: 1. Go to www.library.carleton.ca 2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the video/Youtube link in the bottom right-hand corner. 3. Click on playlists and then the Research Skills 2019 playlist . These videos can be embedded in cuLearn.
